Let me start off by saying that I truly appreciate all the congratulations that have come in. Thank you for your patience as I try to answer them all as quickly as I can.
As a volunteer or donor, this is your victory. You made it happen. You put in the long hours of volunteering, answered the call each time we needed your help and stood behind this campaign. I am truly humbled to have the confidence and dedication of so many.
When I made the decision to run, I knew we had a tough battle ahead of us. Therefore, our winning strategy was always based on a strong grassroots campaign focused on voter outreach and fueled by volunteers. I never could have imagined just how successful of a volunteer-based operation we would create.
We had over 500 volunteers participate in this campaign and together we held over 200 house meetings and reached 50,000 voters through personal contact. Every single vote counted in our victory Tuesday night, so be confident that every hour spent knocking on doors and phoning voters really made the difference.
But our work has just begun. We must now work towards creating a new economy here on the Central Coast focused on green jobs, making education a priority again and protecting our environment.
In order for me to be effective as a legislator, I need your continued support and involvement in this administration. One of my main goals as your representative is to be as accessible and in-touch with the needs of this community as possible. With the grassroots structure we've created in this campaign, I am confident that together, we can do just that.
