Constitutional Rights of Equality

Das Williams, 35th Assembly District Democratic Nominee, today announced his support for Chief U.S. Distict Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling clarifying constitutional rights of equality. Williams expressed support for Judge Walker’s ruling, which determined that Proposition 8 unconstitutionally deprived same sex couples of their right to end the civil institution of marriage.

“Today is a good day for equality and civil rights,” said Das. “I applaud Judge Walker’s decision." Williams continued, "Today’s decision is a landmark and upholds the fundamental rights of human beings to be treated equally under the laws of our nation. This is a great day for the dignity and respect of so many in our state."

Williams also said that the fight for equality and equal rights is not over and everyone must remain vigilant. “This is not over. We must continue to organize and work against efforts to eliminate the rights of our neighbors, friends, co-workers and loved ones.”
