Williams added, “People in this state are suffering with layoffs, home foreclosures, furloughs, and other untold hardships caused by the wrongheaded fiscal policies coming out of Sacramento. I am running in this race because I want to instill in our state’s Capitol the same, results-driven leadership and problem solving I have prioritized throughout my tenure on the Santa Barbara City Council.”

“I am honored that SEIU and so many others in labor are endorsing my record and philosophy,” ended Williams.

Since taking office in 2003, Councilmember Das Williams has delivered for his community time and again. In the face of recent budget shortfalls, he found a way to help balance the city’s books without any major layoffs to critical positions and led negotiations to adopt fair contracts, pensions and benefits for the city’s public employees. Das spearheaded efforts to implement the toughest local energy efficiency standards in the state and worked to fund job creating energy efficiency projects, expand the city’s public transit system, and create vital after-school programs for Santa Barbara youth. Das also previously served as a local community organizer working to stop the development of a Wal-Mart in Ventura and enact local living wage laws for workers in the Santa Barbara and Ventura region.
